Painting of the Week - Norfolk Horn

by Frances - 15:20 on 21 February 2018

realistic painting of a norfolk horn sheep on grey linen canvas Norfolk Horn Painting Status: Available see Gallery

The expression of this sheep was the inspiration as well as the colouring, which is a limited palette challenge.  Sheep do have such expressive faces and this one looks very bright and alert.  The fleece and horns also very interesting to paint, just giving an impression without getting too complicated, but retaining the accuracy. As with my other livestock work it has something to chew on.

This medium sized sheep, where both ewes and rams have horns, comes from the heathlands of Norfolk, known as the Brecks.
